Reliable Egyptian journalist Ahmed Atta has provided the latest update on Mohamed Salah and his contract discussions with Liverpool.
Salah and Liverpool are currently locked in contract discussions as the Egyptian has just four months left on his current deal at the club.
Salah is in the form of his life and is leading the club’s charge towards a possible treble.
He has contributed 49 goals for Liverpool this season, with his 29 goals and 20 assists putting him clear as the most productive player in Europe’s top five league this season.
However, his future remains uncertain just a few months to the end of the season.
The situation has evolved into a high-stakes negotiation between Liverpool and Salah’s camp, with Saudi Arabian giants Al-Hilal waiting in the wings with a lucrative offer.
Despite the allure of Saudi riches, recent signs point toward Salah staying at Anfield.
His agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, recently posted a cryptic yet optimistic message praising Liverpool manager Arne Slot as “excellent at his job.”
His agent also recently liked a post confirming Salah is close to signing a new deal.
However, Egyptian journalist Ahmed Atta claims that Liverpool and Salah remain apart in the financial package involved in the contract.
The offer Liverpool reportedly made to Mohamed Salah
According to Atta, who is a renowned Egyptian journalist and was the chief editor of the Arabic edition of GOAL, Liverpool have made only one offer to Salah, and that offer has been way below expectations.
“But it looks like he had some reasonable reasons [to speak out publicly] because the information I found out recently is that Liverpool made him just one formal offer,” Atta explained to Anfield Watch.
“It was like, we can say it’s like one month ago or one month and a half and it was less than what he’s getting now, not more or not even equal to what’s getting now.
“So it’s a big surprise me to be honest.
With such talent, with such performance and such influence in this team, he has all the reason to at least, at least have the same salary as he’s gaining now.
“But surprisingly, what I know now is that recently, he got a formal offer with less than not, not even close, by the way, not even close to his current salary.
I’m not sure what they have in mind.”
